Captain Scott Burkhardt began sailing when he was 7 years old on Long Island Sound. Starting out on a 12 foot Sunfish, he has sailed/raced on saiboats up to 56 ft. His first cruising boat was a 42 ft catamaran. He lived aboard for two years while sailing from Ft. Lauderdale to Grenada and back again. He presently holds a 50 ton captain's license and is a skilled jack of all trades being able to repair almost anything onboard. Going offshore for fishing excursions or finding a quiet anchorage to drop the hook are all within his experience. His first career was in engineering but has now returned to sailing. Kia Ora was purchased in 2011 and has been outfitted with all of the creature comforts to make her a superb sailing machine.
